PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas generator in a simple structure adequate to use fire chemicals formed with a mixture of organic binder and inorganic perchlorate based oxide filler. SOLUTION: This gas generator 1 has a mainbody with a cylinder side wall 3 extending to a circular base 2. A plurality of orifices 4 are formed through the side wall 3 and an annular cover 6 bent at its edge is engaged with the thin end of the side wall 3. An ignitor 14 is supported in a hollow cylindrical tube 12 mounted in a center hole 11 in the annular cover 6, a cylindrical cap 16 is mounted around the hollow cylindrical tube 12 and an ignition explosive 17 is filled between the cylindrical cap 16 and the ignitor 14. Annular block firing chemicals 18 are arranged to encircle the cylindrical cap 16. A padding spring 23 is set up between the firing chemicals 18 and the annular cover 6 and a padding member 24 is set up between the firing chemicals 18 and the base 2. A thin metal case 25 is laid between the inner faces of the side wall 3 and the base 2 to close the plurality of orifices 4 with air tightness.
