PURPOSE: To obtain hydroxyindium phthalocyanine crystals having improved photosensitivity and durability by subjecting hydroxyindium phthalocyanine to crystal conversion by grinding it if necessary and then treating it with a solvent. CONSTITUTION: 1 pt.wt. hydroxyindium phthalocyanine is subjected to crystal conversion by treating it with 1-200 pts.wt. solvent (such as a halogenated hydrocarbon, a mixture of halogenated hydrocarbons, or a mixture of water with at least one halogenated hydrocarbon), or by making it amorphous and powdering it before the above-mentioned solvent treatment, or by wet grinding it together with the solvent, thus giving a hydroxyindium phthalocyanine crystals having strong diffraction peaks at Bragg angles (2θ±0.2 deg.) of 7.0 deg., 10.5 deg., 15.7 deg., 16.2 deg., 19.2 deg., 24.5 deg., and 26.8 deg. in the X-ray diffraction diagram. An electrophotographic photoreceptor is obtd. by forming a photosensitive layer contg. the crystals on a conductive support.
