The invention relates to a method and an installation for retrievingaluminium in oxidised aluminium waste wherein a load of said waste to beprocessed is preheated to a temperature below the melting point of aluminiumin a preheating zone (2), said preheated load is moved to a melting zone (4)where the load is heated to a temperature above the melting point ofaluminium, but below that of aluminium oxide, in a low or non-oxidisingmedium so as to limit the oxidation rate to a value below 5% of aluminium inthe load, the heterogeneous mixture formed in this way is conveyed to astirring zone (6) in a non-oxidising medium, and the liquid aluminium isseparated from a supernatant solid phase (10) in a settling zone (7).
