PURPOSE: To mix inorganic hydroxide to display a sufficient flame retardant property by coating a flame retardant electric insulating composition, containing the prescribed pts.wt. of metallic hydroxide and frit to the prescribed pts.wt. of ethylene copolymer, to an electric wire and a cable. CONSTITUTION: A center tensile strength body 1 and a spacer 2, wherein a four-core SM fiber tapes 4 are housed in spacer grooves of an outer periphery are provided, and a water absorption and swelling tape 3 is wound on the outer periphery of the spacer; and also moreover, a sheath 5, composed of a flame retardant electric insulating composition, is coated on the outer periphery of the tape 3. The sheath 5 is formed by coating it with the flame retardant electric insulating composition containing a metallic hydroxide of 50-200 pts.wt. and a frit of 1-100 pts.wt. to an ethylene copolymer of 100 pts.wt. In this case, the ethylene copolymer is to be ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer alone or a blend with the other copolymer, and metallic hydroxide is to be one having an endothermic peak of 300 deg.C or higher. Consequently, a flame detardant property is excellent and a harmfull gas is not generated at the time of burning, thereby improving safety at the time of fire. |
