PURPOSE: To provide a novel reflection type liquid crystal display element which is enhanced in the reflectivity over the entire part without relating to a normally black mode and normally white mode. CONSTITUTION: This liquid crystal display element includes first and second substrates 11, 12 which have first and second electrodes 13, 14 on their respective opposite surfaces, a liquid crystal compsn. layer 15 which is held between these first and second substrates 11 and 12, modulating parts which are the regions corresponding to the first electrodes 13 and where the liquid crystal compsn. 15 responds to modulate the reflection quantity of incident light by the voltage impressed between the first and second electrodes 13 and 14, non-modulating parts B which are the regions exclusive of these modulating parts, a light diffusion layer which is formed on the surface on the side opposite to the main surface formed with the first electrodes 13 of the first substrate 11 and a first reflection layer 20 which is formed in at least a part of the regions corresponding to the non-modulating parts B of the main surface formed with the first electrodes 13 of the first substrate 11. |
