PURPOSE: To effectively utilize a super abrasive grain grinding wheel for grinding of a gear by giving additional motion shortening length of the leg of a perpendicular brought down from the center of a gear to be ground to the rotary axis of the grinding wheel, according to movement of a grinding point from the dedendum side to the addendum side, when an involute system gear profile is generated only by rolling motion of the base circle of a gear to be ground. CONSTITUTION: At the dedendum beginning grinding, the length of the leg of a perpendicular brought down from the center of a gear to be ground to a grinding wheel axis is set as a reference value Lo, and the gear profile is finished by a point C inside the outer circumference of a grinding wheel byΔS. At the addendum completing grinding of the gear, the gear profile is finally finished by a point K inside the outer circumference of the grinding wheel byΔS+ΔL. Namely when the gear to be ground is rotated clockwise by angle e, the grinding wheel is moved right by the distance Rgθso as to finish the involute gear profile, but the length of the leg of a perpendicular brought down from the center of the gear to be ground to the grinding wheel axis is shortened byΔL by additional motion during grinding.
