LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY ELEMENT

PURPOSE: To provide a liquid crystal oriented film material and liquid crystal display element having high contrast and small dependence of display characteristics on the visual angle. CONSTITUTION: The liquid crystal display element consists of a pair of substrates each having an oriented film on a transparent electrode which are disposed with the oriented films inside and a liquid crystal material held between the substrates. At least one of substrates has an oriented film which is subjected to orientation treatment in one direction and can form two or more different oriented states of a liquid crystal. Moreover, at least one substrate has an oriented film which produces >=2 deg. pretilt angle of the liquid crystal.
