A box for transporting paintings has a base 5, side walls 2, 3 and a movable lid 4, as well as support means for supporting a painting 13 in the box so as to avoid direct contact with the walls. The box according to the invention is suitable for transporting paintings of different sizes, since at least some of the support means 9-12 can be moved to different positions, in order thus to be adapted to the sizes of a painting (Fig. 2). <IMAGE>
