Antistatic yarn - includes polygonal cross-section methyl fibres in its surface region

An anti-static yarn is formed from non-metallic fibres and has polygonal (e.g. hexagonal) metallic fibres (e.g. stainless steel) in its surface region. The yarn may be formed by twisting together several yarn components and the metallic fibres may be incorporated in the surfaces of the yarn components which form the surface of the yarn. Alternatively some of the yarn components which form the yarn surface may be wholly of metallic fibres. The effect of the metallic fibres in preventing static electrically build-up in e.g. carpets is increased by incorporating them in the surface of the yarn. The hexagonal cross-section ensures better bonding of the metallic fibres in the yarn.
