PURPOSE: To provide a method for producing iron carbide capable of suppressing the deposition of free carbon and the decomposition of iron carbide, stabilizing the production of the iron carbide and improving the productivity even under the condition of a partial pressure of CO higher than a conventional process. CONSTITUTION: The reaction temperature is 400-700 deg.C. In the reaction gas for this production method, the molar ratio of H2 to CO is in the range of O to less than 1, the total of molar fractions of H2 and CO2 is 0.7-1, and the molar ratio of sulfur to the total of the molar fractions of H2 and CO is 10-1000ppm. |
