The drive is for a conveyor belt consisting of flexibly joined identical segments. This belt is supported in a frame (3, 4) on a foundation (5). The drive comprises driven and non-driven gears (9, 10) in the foundation with chains around them. These chains have plugs, spaced with the segments, fitting into a hole (17) in the crotches of L-shaped drivers (13) with large (15) and small legs (16). A guide (21, 28) set into the foundations has an edge (23) sealing off an area (25), and supports the larger legs of the drivers while their smaller legs grip the underside of the belt. The large leg faces in the chain's direction of travel. The drivers can rotate about their plugs, and when they no longer drive the belt their large leg is moved so that its glide surface gradually moves inside the chains. The guides trailing edge is ring shaped and located inside and coaxial with the gears. Each non-driven driver glides against this trailing edge as it is guided against the belt's underside profile. |
