The front-wheel-drive (2,3) vehicle (1) has rear wheels (13) independently mounted on trailing arms (12) pivoted (14) in brackets (15) fixed to the vehicle body at each side, leaving a clear space between, below the level of the seats and/or boot floor (10). A module (4) carrying the battery (5), associated cooling system (7,8), charger (6) and other ancillaries (9) is supported in this space by fixing screws. To remove or change the battery, the vehicle rear is jacked up and then lowered on to prop-stands placed under-neath the module. Opt., the module carries hinged legs for this purpose. After removing the fixing screws, the electrical connections and a rear body panel, the vehicle is easily rolled forward clear of the module.
