PURPOSE: To improve mixed color caused by delay of response of aπcell and afterglow of a picture generation source. CONSTITUTION: When blue is switched to green, one side ofπcell is turned OFF from ON by a driving signal Sd1, the other side ofπcell is kept ON as it is. As shown in Fig. B, timing of fall of the driving signal Sd1 is set to the end of a video signal period. Thereby, even if a response time of one side ofπcell is long, switching color is finished in a blanking period. Therefore, occurrence of mixing blue color in the upper part of a screen can be prevented. Timing of a driving signal Sd2 by which the other side ofπcell is turned OFF from ON is set in the same way. Further, switching timing from red to blue is set to near the end of a blanking period, and mixed color caused by afterglow is prevented.
