The parameters detected are the ion current maximum value and its position, the area under the ion current curve, the position of the centre of gravity and the derivative maximum value and its position. The parameters are used for determining the engine load, temperature and combustion quality. - The position of the centre of gravity corresponds to the angle position where the area under the on current gives the same large torque around the top dead centre as the sum of the ion current curve part torques. Combustion quality, with regard to small exhaust gas emissions, is determined mainly with the aid of the curve area and by reducing the fuel amount until the engine temperature commences to rise rapidly. The parameters are determined after suitable signal processing, such as filtering and calculating. |
