Invention relates to the new sulfur-containing phosphonate compounds and new thio-substituted compounds involving biphosphonates, phosphonoalkylphosphonates, phosphonocarboxylates and phosphonosulfonates, and their pharmaceutically acceptable salts and esters. Then, invention relates to the pharmaceutical compositions containing safety and effective amount of proposed compounds and pharmaceutically acceptable carriers. Then, invention relates to the methods of treatment and prophylaxis of pathological states exhibiting anomal calcium and phosphate metabolism in human and other mammalian involving treatment and prophylaxis of osteoporosis and arthritis. Method involves administration of safety and effective amount of compound or composition of this invention to human or other mammalian. New sulfur-containing compounds have the general formula (I)at condition that at least one of R, R, Ror Ris SRor RSR. Then, this invention relates to the treatment of arthritis in human or other mammalian that involves administration of safety and effective amount of thio-substituted compound of the formula (III)at condition that at least one of R, R, Ror Rmust be SRor RSR..
