PURPOSE: To provide a liquid crystal display device with which a required light quantity is obtd. as a back light of a liquid crystal panel and the increase in the size of the device by equipment with the back light is suppressed and which is particularly adequate for small-sized electronic apparatus limited in packaging space small. CONSTITUTION: Light emitting elements 14 consisting of LEDs, etc., of light sources for back light are directly arranged on either one of a pair of opposite substrates 11, 12 consisting of transparent materials for forming the liquid crystal panel 10. The respectively plural light emitting elements 14 are arranged in both side terminal parts 12a, 12a of the one substrate (for example, the lower substrate 12) and are covered with light transmission materials 16 for diffusing light. In addition, the light emitting elements 14 are arranged in arbitrary places including the front surfaces, side end faces, stepped parts and rear surfaces of both side terminal parts of the lower substrate 12. |
