PURPOSE: To operate a sensor at 600 deg.C or higher without influence of the change of CO2 concentration and to accurately detect NOX concentration in a high- temperature exhaust gas by using an electrode material of oxide or composite oxide which is active for oxygen and NOX and has almost no catalytic action for CO2 . CONSTITUTION: A nitrogen oxide sensor comprises pair of electrodes are so formed of at least a first electrode 2 and a second electrode 3 as to be brought into contact with oxygen ion conductive solid electrolyte 1, where at least the first electrode 2 contains oxide of element selected from group 7a or 8 elements or particularly Mn, Fe, Co, Ni or substance containing the oxide or group 7a or 8 elements, or particularly composite oxide (including oxide having lack of oxygen) represented by ABO3 , AB2 O4 , A2 BO4 , ACBO4 or the substance containing the oxide. |
