PURPOSE: To prevent mixed color and color splitting when color is switched using a liquid crystal shutter. CONSTITUTION: The order of color of green, blue and red is set in a n+1 frame next to (n) frame in which the order of color in a frame is red, blue and green. The number of times with which one side ofπcells and the other side ofπcell in a liquid crystal shutter is turned OFF from ON is decreased to a half comparing with conventional one in which the fixed order of color switching of red, blue and green is performed. Therefore, mixed color caused by delay of response of aπcell can be reduced. Also, since the same color (red or green) is continued after that even if an afterglow time of blue is long, mixed color by afterglow can be reduced. Further, color splitting in which color is applied on an edge of a white object can be made inconspicuous when the line of sight is moved.
