PURPOSE: To provide an optical communication system which can prevent the occurrence of an optical surge owing to misoperation at the time of connecting an optical connector. CONSTITUTION: The optical communication system is provided with a transmission line 13 to which pilot signal light is always supplied and an optical transmitter 11 having a function for discriminating the connection state of the transmission line 13 by judging whether pilot signal light from the transmission line 13 is inputted or not through an optical connector 12 and starting the transmission of main signal light while a level is increased with a prescribed time constant (time constant by which the optical surge does not occur). |
