PURPOSE: To reproduce an image without color blur by increasing a read speed and increasing a read area and suppressing heat generation. CONSTITUTION: The image reader is provided with a means 17 discriminating an original image in the case of preliminary scanning, a means 18 replacing a drive clock signal for a photoelectric conversion element with a high speed clock signal in the main scanning when the original image is discriminated to be a binary image by the means 17, and a means 19 selecting image information in a predetermined color in the case of main scanning when the original image discrimination means 18 discriminates the original image to be a black/ white image, and the image information selected by the signal selection means 19 is stored in a storage device. |
