PURPOSE: To properly achieve the usability for recording and/or reproducing in VHS formal by improving output characteristics on recording/reproducing, improving wear resistance, extending the life of a product, and improving reliability. CONSTITUTION: A pair of magnetic cores 1 and 2 are constituted by a magnetic single-crystal ferrite, magnetic recording medium slide surfaces 1a and 2a of the magnetic cores 1 and 2 are constituted by (100) face, butt surfaces 1b and 2b are constituted by (100) face, the depth length of a magnetic gap g1 is set to 40±10μm, and a width W in track width direction of the magnetic recording medium sliding surfaces 1a and 2a is set to 85±15μm. It is preferable that the crystalline orientation in the magnetic recording medium sliding direction of the magnetic single-crystal ferrite for constituting the magnetic cores 1 and 2 should be <100>.
