PURPOSE: To provide a spin detector whose optical axis can be adjusted easily and whose mounting position can be changed easily. CONSTITUTION: A spin detector is constituted of a p-type GaAs single-crystal film 11 in a thickness of about 1μm, an optical fiber bundle 12 and a circular- polarization-degree measuring device 13. The device 13 is composed of an optical filter 14, a quarter-wave plate 15, a linear polarization plate 16 and a light- intensity measuring device 17. The film 11 is a Cs-O multiplayer film formed on the surface on the incident side of a polarized electron beam 18, and it is a thin film whose electronegativity is negative (NEA). In addition, a deceleration potential is applied to the GaAs film 11 in such a way that the energy of the incident polarized electron beam 18 becomes nearly zero.
