Thumb ring for endoscopic instruments

The thumb ring (20) is pivotally mounted on the instrument (10) at a fixture point (23) so as to rotate on an axis parallel to the longitudinal axis of the instrument. The ring has at least one opening (22) for inserting the user's thumb. The ring contains, opposite the fixture point, at least one concave, cylinder-sectioned contact surface (25) for one of the two openings of the thumb ring. The axis of the cylinder slopes towards the axis of the ring as viewed in the direction in which the thumb is inserted.
