Method and apparatus for parallel processing a calculation of required amounts of materials such as various types of parts and raw materials needed for products to be produced in accordance with a production plan, comprising one or a plurality of MPS reading units for reading MPS (Master Production Schedule), one or a plurality of parts explosion calculation units and a synchronous mechanism unit for guaranteeing that a parts explosion calculation for each item is carried out after a parts explosion calculation for parent items has been completed and controlling the process of a parts explosion parallel calculation for each item within the range of the guarantee, whereby making it possible to obtain calculation results within a shorter period of time which are equivalent to conventional sequential required material amount explosion calculation.
