TOPICALLY APPLIED PHARMACEUTICAL COMPOSITION, METHOD OF PREPARING IT AND ITS USE

Described is a topically applied pharmaceutical composition containing at least one liquid lipid, at least one active pharmaceutical substance which is soluble in the liquid lipid and resorbed by the skin, and a water-containing gel representing the main constituent of the composition. At least one lipid and at least one active substance are incorporated in the gel and the composition is essentially free of emulsifiers and solid constituents, with the exception of the gelling agents necessary for the formation of the water-containing gel. All the active substances are used in dissolved form, at least one of the active substances being dissolved in the liquid lipid, however, and the lipid containing the active substance is incorporated as such as the inner phase in the water-containing gel which forms the outer phase. The composition is also essentially free of surface-active agents. The method of preparing the composition described calls for at least one active substance which is resorbed by the skin to be dissolved in a lipid, preferably to give a concentrated solution, and for this solution then to be incorporated as the inner phase in a hydrogel which forms the outer phase, the hydrogel representing the main constituent of the composition. The composition obtained is highly stable and has good galenical characteristics.
