At least one wall of the slice chamber has an upstream and a downstream portion at an angle to one another to define upstream 19a and downstream 19 portions of the chamber, the elements 26 being wholly disposed in the downstream portion 19 and projecting towards the slice opening 20. As described, each connection between parts 25, 26 may be direct and rigid, (Figs. 2, 4, 5 and 6, not shown) or via a connecting member which is flexible (Figures 7, 8, not shown). The upstream end of each plate 25 is pivotally connected to a transverse member which may comprise a perforate wall (Figures 2 and 5) or a respective plastics rod 27 and may be fixed in position by spacers. The elements 26 are preferably free to be solely responsive to the forces exerted thereon by the stock flowing towards the opening 20.</p> |
