Plastic carrier bags are mfd. from thermoplastic plastic by a method in which double layers of material strip (3, 4) are intermittently passed through a pair of feed rollers (1, 2) and moved forwards by the width of the carrying handles to be formed. During stoppage periods, two heated dies (6, 7) form preheated areas (8) having the shape of the handles. A transverse shearing knife (9) cuts off a strip, which is then folded and welded. Dies are pref. provided with electric heaters.
