A plug-in contact sleeve or barrel made of an electrical contact material and comprising a rearward connection region or zone (1) for at least one electrical connection line, a central base region or zone (2) and a frontal contact zone (3) for receiving plug-in contact pin (8) the zones lying axially one behind the other along the length of the contact sleeve. The base region (2) is box-shaped i.e. has a square cross-section onto which is joined a transitional zone (58) running out from the box-shaped region's side-walls (32-34) and changing from a rectangular cross-section into at least one channel or duct (4) having an annular cross-section.
