<p>A mobile communication system includes a bracing system that protects and secures the internal components of a mobile communication system. The bracing system includes an upper housing (230) comprised of a shock resistant material. The upper housing (230) includes a monitor cavity, elevated portions surrounding the monitor cavity and formed in the upper housing (230), and elastomer sections (232a, 232b) disposed on the elevated portions. In addition, the upper housing (230) includes a breakage resistant transparent material (90) placed on the elastomer sections (232a, 232b) and in conformity with the monitor cavity, a display monitor (236) being protected by the breakage resistant material (90) and a shock absorbing material (234) disposed around the peripheries of the breakage resistant transparent material (90) and the display monitor (236). The upper housing (230) also includes a mounting bracket (242), an integral keyboard (86) formed of a water resistant material, and a first printed circuit board (238) including switches selectively activated in response to depression of the elevated keys. The bracing system also includes a lower housing (250) also comprised of a shock resistant material. The lower housing (250) includes a second printed circuit board (256) including a central processing unit, and a support (254) therefor.
