The disc composite has two portions which are secured together positively or by friction. The thicknesses of the supporting and hard discs are respectively a minimum of 0.6 mm and 0.05 to 2.5 mm. The material of the hard one has a Vickers low-load hardness of at least 1300 HV 0.5. Plastic, metal, glass, silicate ceramic or a composite material can be used for the supporting one. The hard disc can be of silicon carbide, silicon nitride, zircon oxide, aluminium oxide or cemented carbide. It can be smaller than the supporting one, which extends partially around it, and does not protrude at right angles to the working surface where a sealing disc runs against it.
