X-ray tube anode, e.g. for electron beam tomography

The anode (12) has an impact surface (18) for an electron beam (ES) for generating a focal point (BF). The impact surface has a step-wise structure with the front of the steps at right angles to the electron beams. The side walls of the impact surface receive the electrons backscattered from the front side of the steps. The angle between the front surfaces and the side walls is at least 90 degrees. The focal point is at a point on the anode with a depth of at least 5 microns, pref. at least 50 microns. An electromagnet may be used as a deflection magnet.
