<p>This invention has a guidewire extension capability for use in a medical procedure having a guidewire (12) and a guidewire extension (13). The guidewire comprises a flexible elongate cylindrical member (16) having proximal and distal extremities. A portion of the distal extremity is formed of a material having high torque ability and high push ability. The guidewire extension comprises a flexible elongate cylindrical member formed of a shape memory material. A major portion of the flexible elongate cylindrical member of the guidewire extension has a shape memory in the form of a coil so that when it is free it will assume a shape memory coil. A junction (14) is formed between the proximal extremity of the guidewire (17) and the distal extremity of the guidewire extension (33) to the guidewire.</p> |
