The identification system includes a housing. The narrow side of the housing which faces a read/write head (80) has a free region in front of which the read head extends parallel to the narrow side. The housing also includes a region in the lengthways direction of the narrow side, near the free region, which carries a housing projection (60). The read/write head is fixed to the housing projection in different rotational settings around an axis parallel to the narrow side.
