Infinitely variable transmission with power branching

The transmission has one hydrostatic unit with variable volume and one hydrostatic unit with fixed volume. These are bridged by fixed ratio gears controlled by clutches with the rate of application and release of the clutches determined by the dynamics of the engine. The two hydrostatic units operate as motor and pump in either combination and the outputs are combined by a summation unit. The rate at which the control clutches and control elements are operated is controlled by programmed timing circuits as well as the engine loading as well as other dynamic factors.
