Each mat (16) comprises intersecting round steel bars (18,20), while distance-pieces join the mats together. Some at least of the bars have ends protruding beyond the mats in the lengthwise or transverse direction, and which are bent over at right angles to form the distance-pieces (18',20'). These are joined to the other mat, or its distance-pieces, so as to form a square meshwork cage (10). The ends of all bars of one cage can be of the same length, forming the four peripheral sides of the cage. Two cages can be identical and may be nested together, the distance-pieces on them being in pairs and situated close together.
