Fuel injection device for diesel engine

The fuel injection device has an electrically-operated injection valve (1) for each engine cylinder, coupled to a common rail fuel reservoir (14) supplied via a continuous fuel pump (15). The line (16) between each injection valve and the common rail fuel reservoir contains an intermediate fuel reservoir (13). A magnetic valve (8) controls a connection between the common rail fuel reservoir and a pressure space (7) communicating with the injection opening under control of a valve element (2). The intermediate fuel reservoir has a variable volume controlled in dependence on the operating characteristic of the engine.
