The axle system consists of a fork (12), which is mounted on the end of a hollow axle (14) of a vehicle and a support housing (48) which is mounted in the fork and which consists of a steering knuckle (52) and a brake housing (54). A disc brake runs in fluid inside the brake housing. The steering knuckle is mounted on the fork in such a way that it can pivot on one of the prongs of the fork. The steering knuckle and brake housing form one integral unit. The rotating discs of the brake are mounted on a bush (88) which rotates about the centreline (18) of the axle.
