Rotational weighing device for providing visible proof of Coriolis effect due to rotation of Earth

The weighing device involves Atwood's weight-falling machine (FM) is held on the vertical axis of two torsion threads (T1,T2) inside a tube (F). A running cable (L) passes over a pulley on the Atwood's machine and links the falling weight (mf) and the ascending weight (ma) within the tube. The Coriolis force will cause these to turn at a given angle away from their original places. This is visible in a small mirror attached to the machine which reflects a laser beam (H). The machine, with a total height of 2.5 to 4 metres, can be placed in any quarter. The tube prevents disturbance of the measuring procedure by air currents. Magnetic contact-free stopping and starting mechanisms ensure that the demonstration is not affected by vibration.
