An electrically conductive filamentary material in the form of a tape comprising, when seen in section, at least three layers: an inner non-conductive layer (1), for example of polypropylene, and outer layers (2, 3) made of a conductive material, for example a 30 % by weight carbon black loaded conductive polypropylene compound. The inner layer forms a sufficient proportion of the whole to ensure that it largely controls the physical properties of the tape and enables the basic unstressed tape to be drawn, under heat, to quite high draw ratios, for example in the range 3:1 to 10:1. The material can be woven to form fabrics which need a low surface resistivity, for example to counteract the effects of static electricity. |
