The position of a drive belt (10) and a friction element on the belt is detected using a magnet (14) and a fixed-position Hall sensor (15). The magnet is movable along with the drive belt. The drive belt is made of fibre-reinforced plastic foil and includes a friction layer (11) made of a material with a high caught. of friction w.r.t. paper. The magnet is 4 to 6 mm wide and 0.5 to 1.5 mm thick. The width and height of the space (16) for receiving the movable magnet is 0.5 to 1.55 mm greater than the width and height of the magnet.
