The assembly comprises a frame adapted to be fixedly mounted within the vehicle, and a support member mounted to the frame for movement with respect to the frame between an extended position and a retracted position. There is at least one retaining member supported by the support member for movement with it, the retaining member being mounted to the support member for movement between a use position and a stored position. The retaining member includes an arm having a continuous circumferential retaining ring at one end. The ring defines an aperture of a size into which a beverage container can be received and having an offset portion formed with it and generally extending away from remaining portions of the ring, the offset portion adapted to receive the handle of a container in it. There is also a biasing device for biasing the retaining member into the use position when the support member is in the extended position.
