The equipment produces a series of successive electrical output signals which define individual approximate values of the intensity in small part areas in the object (14) of infrared radiation emitted by the areas and reaching the camera (10). The equipment determines the temperature in the selectable part (21) of the object by calculating on the basis of a value derived for the intensity from the individual approximate intensity values and in respect of the infrared radiation emitted from the part of the object and reaching the camera. Calculation of the temperature in the selected part of the object is on the basis of a corrected intensity value in respect of infrared radiation emanating from other parts of the object and reaching the camera. The equipment uses correction terms comprising approximate values of the intensity in infrared radiation emitted by the other parts of the object multiplied by individual coefficients fixed in advance for each of the other parts.
