摘要 PURPOSE:To enhance the efficiency of utilizing reading-out light so that writing and erasing are speeded up by impressing an erasing voltage which executes electric field induced rearrangement, a writing voltage which generates scattering by photoirradiation and a holding voltage to a titled valve. CONSTITUTION:The titled valve consists of two sheets of transparent glass substrates 105 provided with transparent electrodes 104, a photoconductor layer 101 and photosepn. mirror 102 laminated on one electrode 105, a p-type smectic liquid crystal layer 103 contg. an additive for dynamic scattering and a driving voltage source 107. The voltage of the frequency to which a dopant cannot follow up and which obviates the generation of the dynamic scattering is impressed to the valve to array the liquid crystal molecules so that the entire surface is made transparent. The voltage of the low frequency at which the dynamic scattering can be generated is then applied to the valve and the writing light 108 is projected thereto to lower the impedance of the above-mentioned layer 101 and to increase the partial voltage of the layer 103, thus forming the image by the scattering. The display state is thereafter maintained by the strong elastic force of the liquid crystal even if the impressed voltage is decreased to 0.
