The fuel supply to an internal combustion engine is supplied through the pipe (21) and the fitting (24) to the injection pump (11). The upward motion of the piston (14) forces fuel at a pressure of 1000kg/cm2into the chamber (18). When the shoulders (15, 16) of the piston (14) come into line with the ports (20, 22) this high pressure is suddenly transmitted to the inlet pipe (22) and drain pipe (23). To prevent these high pressure fluctuations causing damage to the pipes (22, 23) the fittings (24, 25) are provided with spring loaded ball valves (26, 31) which limit the maximum pressure to a pre-determined value. Any surplus fuel returns to the fuel tank through the pipes (39, 40).
|
