PURPOSE: To satisfy all respective characteristics of particulate scavenging performance, a pressure loss by scavenging, reproducing performance and durability as well as to attain downsizing and cost reduction. CONSTITUTION: A material by filling ceramics or metal in a porous body having a three-dimensional net like structure which is formed of heat resistant metal and has a communicating pore or a pore of its porous body, is formed as a filter material, and metallic diametrically different taper cylindrical filters 2 to 7 formed of its filter material are concentrically arranged so that the taper directions alternately become inverse. In cylindrical filters 3 to 7, respective small diameter side end parts are connected to large diameter side end parts of the cylindrical filters on the inside by one, and clearances between the respective filters are alternately put to a dead end on the inlet side and the outlet side of exhaust gas. A filter element 1 constituted in this way is installed in a metallic vessel arranged in the middle of an exhaust system, and a particulate trap is constituted. A catalyst is carried on one surface or both surfaces of a filter part, and can also be used as a catalytic converter. |
