PURPOSE: To obtain a chalcogenide glass fiber ensuring a small loss at the time of transmitting IR and having high mechanical strength. CONSTITUTION: In a chalcogenide glass fiber having a core-clad structure, the core glass 20 is composed of 25-55at.% As and 45-75at.% S and the clad glass 21 is composed of 18-54at.% As, 46-80at.% S and 0.5-7at.% Ge.
