PRODUCTION OF HYDROCARBON ADSORBENT

PURPOSE: To produce a hydrocarbon adsorbent used in a system for purifying exhaust gas discharged from the internal combustion engine of an automobile, etc. CONSTITUTION: A silica sol as an inorg. binder and water are added to zeolite powder to prepare a slurry. The silica has a slender shape and the ratio (D1/D2) of the particle diameter D1(nm) measured by a dynamic light scattering method to the particle diameter D2(nm) measured by a gaseous nitrogen adsorption method is >=5. The slurry is applied to a honeycomb monolithic carrier, dried and fired to form a coating layer.
