MOLDED FEATHER AND PRODUCTION THEREOF

PURPOSE: To provide a molded feather improved in flexural strength, flexural modulus, mechanical strength and transparency by hot-pressing a mixture of a feather powder and a protein powder in the presence of water. CONSTITUTION: 1g of a feather powder of at most 40μm in particle size is mixed with an aq. alcohol soln. having an alcohol concn. of 25 to 75wt.% to obtain a feather powder slurry having a water content of at least 30wt.%. If necessary, this slurry is mixed with at most 99wt.% protein and at most 10wt.% crosslinking agent both based on the feather. The slurry or the resulting mixture is filled in a frame, and then hot-pressed under a pressure of at least 80kg/cm<2> at 95 to 105 deg.C for 10min to 2hr to obtain a molded feather having a water content of at most 10wt.%.
