The monitor includes an air pump in fluid communication with a blood pressure cuff to direct pressure into the cuff. A valves selectively vents the cuff to the atmosphere. A pressure transduce generates a signal indicative of a steady fluid pressure in the cuff which corresponds to an occlusive pressure exerted by the cuff on an artery and a transient fluid pressure in the cuff indicative of the amplitude of an oscillometric pulse. An analog to digital converter, samples the output of the pressure transducer and generates respective digital samples. A processor receives the digital signals, and energises the air pump to inflate the cuff. The valve is energised to selectively reduce the steady state fluid pressure in the cuff. The fluid pressure an the amplitude of a peak of the oscillometric pulses are recorded to determine all local maxima of the oscillometric peaks, and the longest sequence of peaks adjacent to those maxima. One of the maxima is selected as a true maximum value and a diastolic blood pressure, systolic blood pressure and mean blood pressure are computed.
|
