MANUFACTURE OF METAL CARRIER FOR PURIFYING EXHAUST GAS

PURPOSE: To improve the productivity of a metal carrier by fitting a plurality of outer cylinders of length in compliance with product dimension on the outer periphery of a continuous length honeycomb body and cutting the honeycomb body on the positions of respective outer cylinders. CONSTITUTION: A plane foil of heat-resistant stainless steel is overlapped with a corrugated foil of the same material as the plane foil and wound into the spiral shape to form a continuous length honeycomb body 1. Outer cylinders 2A and 2B having the length in compliance with a finished product dimension are fitted into the honeycomb body 1. The short cylinders 2A and 2B are manufactured by heat-resistant stainless steel plates of optional plate thickness. The outer diameter of the cylinders of the honeycomb body 1 set to be slightly larger than the inner diameters of the outer cylinders 2A and 2B and the body 1 is force fitted or making the outer diameter of the body 1 slightly smaller and it is fitted and then the outer cylinders 2A and 2B are drawn in the diameter direction. Then the honeycomb body 1 is cut by an electrolytic composite cutting or other means in the dimensions of respective outer cylinders 2A and 2B to form respective metal carriers.
